We should foster competence, not overuse and dependence. Artificial intelligence (like ChatGPT) is here to stay, but students must still learn to produce good writing without it. I support a systemwide “Away for the Day” policy for students’ personal devices, and I will fight industry marketing and data collection in school technology programs.
